Located in West Africa, Nigeria has the largest population in Africa. It is also the largest economy in Africa. The country’s economy is highly dependent on petroleum, which accounts for more than 85% of the country’s total export volume. While Nigeria is rich in petroleum resources and has abundant mineral deposits, it ranks bottom on the human development index. Due to extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, an offshoot of Boko Haram, the government of Nigeria is too occupied just trying to deal with terrorist attacks and kidnappings to focus its efforts on raising the living standard of its people.
