位於太平洋的玻里尼西亞島群西側，由九個環形珊瑚島群組成，國土面積全世界第四小，開車繞一圈只要30分鐘。地勢極低，是全球遭受海平面上升威脅最嚴重的國家，被稱為「即將消失的天堂」。是台灣邦交國，我國農技團用堆肥解決吐瓦魯土地貧瘠不適農耕的問題，在當地每週固定供應新鮮蔬菜。中國企業曾提案造價4億美元的人工島計畫，但新總理那塔諾拒絕了，堅持挺台。本地主要語言為吐瓦魯語，與我若干原住民族（如魯凱族）所用部分語彙接近。

Situated to the west of the Polynesian archipelago, Tuvalu consists of nine atolls and is the world’s fourth smallest country in area, taking only 30 minutes to travel the island by car. The country is extremely low-lying, facing the worst threat of rising sea levels in the world and is known as “the heaven that will one day disappear.”

A diplomatic ally of Taiwan, our agricultural and technical missions used composting to help solve Tuvalu’s soil infertility problem, and create a stable supply of locally grown fresh vegetables. A Chinese enterprise proposed a man-made island project worth 400 million USD, but the new Prime Minister, Kausea Natano, rejected it, insisting on supporting Taiwan. 

The local language is mainly Tuvalu, sharing some words in common with the language of many indigenous peoples in Taiwan (the Rukai people for example).
