Monaco is a city-state (where the national territory of a state is also the size of a city) in Western Europe. It is surrounded by France, except for its southern border along the Mediterranean coastline. With a land area of only about 2 square kilometers, the country still manages to accommodate a population of over 39,244. It is the most densely populated country in the world with a population density twice as high as Taipei City. The tourism and gambling industries constitute the economic mainstays of Monaco. Its magnificent casinos and F1 race car circuit draw in a large number of tourists. Exemption from personal income tax has made the country a tax haven for the rich. Luxury homes and yachts are common sights in the country, and thus it is also famous for being the most luxurious city in the world.
