無論是土地面積或人口數，皆是南美洲最小國。曾受荷蘭殖民，是南美洲唯一一個以荷蘭語為官方語言的國家。種族和文化多元豐富，同時也是美食熔爐，各國料理在這皆能找到。有著相當大的華人社群，佔總人口將近一成。但華人的大量移入也造成資源排擠，國內排華氛圍濃厚。
2015年美國石油公司在蘇利南和鄰國蓋亞那發現巨大石油蘊藏量，蘇利南一夕之間成為大國的座上賓，中國和美國都積極拉攏。

Suriname is the smallest and the least populous country in South America. Having been colonized by the Dutch, it is the only Dutch-speaking country in South America. Because of its different ethnic groups, Suriname has a variety of delicacies they can call their own. The Chinese constitute almost 10% of the total population. As the Chinese are now flooding Suriname, there is a growing anti-Chinese public sentiment in the country. 

In 2015, the discovery of sizable oil reserves in Suriname made it popular with both China and the US.
