Senegal is a country in West Africa. Its capital city sits on the westernmost end of the African continent. Since the state broke away from French colonial control in 1960, it has maintained relative political stability compared to other West African countries. It was also the first country in Africa to undergo a peaceful transition of power through an election process. In 1995, the government introduced economic reforms and it has maintained an average annual economic growth above 4%. However, issues like wealth inequality also developed. In 2021, the incumbent president attempted to amend the constitution to extend his term in Office and that triggered many anti-government demonstrations and riots.
