The country’s name is derived from the Latin word “Liber,” meaning freedom or liberty. Liberia is constantly plagued by civil war and its economy is extremely underdeveloped. It ranks in the bottom 20 on the human development index. The incumbent president George Weah was a famous footballer who played for AC Milan. He has won several important titles, including FIFA World Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year, and African Footballer of the Year. Many people believe he is one of the best professional footballers in Africa.
