Portugal is located in Southwestern Europe. Its Cabo da Roca or Cape Roca is the westernmost point of continental Europe. Because of its powerful naval force in the 16th century, Portugal  is the European country with the longest colonial history. Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the world today. The country’s economy is back on its feet now putting behind it the European debt crisis of 2009. The UN scored Portugal really high on the Human Development Index. It ranked 26th globally on the The Economist’s 2020 Index of Democracy.
