An Islamic state in South Asia. Pakistan became rivals with India after the Partitioning of India in 1947 and fought three Indo-Pakistani Wars, with both parties developing nuclear weapons with which to threaten one another. Even though conflicts with India occur in Kashmir only nowadays, Pakistan still maintains the world's 10th largest armed forces on active duty with nuclear weapons access.
Originally one of the fastest growing developing countries, the GDP growth rate has declined in the past two years and it has fallen from the world's 40th biggest economy to the 45th. It signed onto the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor project with China in 2014, an important item in the Belt and Road project, but there has still been no progress as of 2021.
