Located in the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe, Sweden is the largest Northern European country with a population of approximately 10 million people. 64% of Swedish territory is covered by forest, hence the reason why 87% of the population occupies a mere 1.5% of the country’s territory. Sweden ranks extremely high on the Human Development Index among the top 8 in the world. Known for its excellent social welfare system, in Sweden, tuition is not required until university. However, because Sweden takes in the highest number per capita of Syrian refugees in Europe (Germany is highest in total number), when that immigrant boom meets good social welfare, it can pose challenges to the national finance budget. Sweden boasts many internationally well-known brands including Spotify, IKEA, and H&M. The Nobel Prize is also from Sweden.
