Located in the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe, Norway has a winding coastline with many natural harbors. Approximately two-thirds of the land is covered by plateaus, mountains, and
glaciers, and it has a lower population density than New Zealand. Rich in natural resources (petroleum, natural gas, and fisheries), a successful combination of market economy and government policy has led to a rather equal distribution of income, giving Norway the 4th highest GDP per capita and the number one spot on the Human Development Index in the world. In addition, whether it is the World Happiness Report, Global Peace Index, or Democracy Index published by the Economist, Norway ranks near the top and has thus been recognized the most livable country on the planet for many consecutive years.
