Don’t confuse it with the Republic of the Congo! The Democratic Republic of the Congo is also known as Congo-Kinshasa or DR Congo. It is, by area, the second-largest state in all of Africa, and the most populous officially Francophone country in the world. It is extremely rich in natural resources, but suffers from political instability. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition from France, Russia, and America have propagated the country’s political turmoil. Controlled by terrorist organizations and armed forces, the country ranks bottom on the human development index. It was seriously plagued by the Ebola outbreak. Ebola is named after a river in this country. The United Nations Peacekeeping Force has been deployed in DR Congo for a long time.
