南美洲唯一英語系國家。土地很大片，但人口只有80萬，人口密度跟加拿大差不多。2015年美國石油公司埃克森美孚（ExxonMobil） 在蓋亞那附近海域發現近年來最大石油來源。如果順利開採，蓋亞那可能會立刻晉升為全球前十大石油國家之一︒ 2021年2月台灣原本要在蓋亞那成立「台灣辦公室」，但蓋亞那政府立即以「溝通有誤」為由，終止協議。與鄰國委內瑞拉長期存在領土爭議。

Guyana is the only country in South America with English as the official language. Its land area is rather big, but its population of only about 800,000 is similar to Canada’s population density. ExxonMobil made a significant oil discovery off the coast of Guyana in 2015. In February 2021, Taiwan was going to set up a Taiwan Office in Guyana, but the government of Guyana terminated the agreement by saying there was a misunderstanding caused by a communications problem. Guyana and Venezuela have long had a border dispute.
